There's something special about a country general store. It's more than just a place to pick up milk or a fishing lure — it's a gathering spot, a community hub, and a little piece of what makes a small town feel like home. That's exactly what we're building here at 863 Main Street in Meddybemps, Maine.
Meddybemps is a small town with a big heart. Tucked away in Washington County right off Route 191, with the crystal-clear waters of Meddybemps Lake right at our doorstep, it's the kind of place where neighbors look out for each other and the pace of life feels just right. Our little community of around 140 residents has been without a proper local store for too long, and we're here to change that.
The Meddybemps Country Store is being built with one simple goal: to serve this community the right way. That means stocking our shelves with locally made and locally sourced products whenever possible, supporting Maine artisans and farmers, carrying the essentials people actually need day-to-day, and being a friendly, welcoming place where everyone feels at home — whether you've lived here for 40 years or you're visiting the lake for the first time.
We're not trying to compete with the big box stores in Calais or Machias. We're here to be something different: your neighborhood store, your reliable neighbor, and a little celebration of everything that makes Downeast Maine great.

Meddybemps Lake is one of Washington County's true hidden treasures. Covering several thousand acres of pristine water surrounded by unspoiled Maine wilderness, the lake is renowned among anglers, paddlers, and nature lovers throughout New England.
The fishing here is legendary. Whether you're casting from the shore or heading out in a canoe at first light, Meddybemps Lake offers some of the finest freshwater fishing in all of Maine. The surrounding forests and wetlands are home to abundant wildlife and spectacular natural beauty through all four seasons.
We're proud to call this beautiful place home, and we're here to serve everyone who loves it — from the family spending a week at a camp on the shore, to the retired couple who've been spending their summers here for 30 years, to the local farmer down the road who just needs a loaf of bread and a friendly hello.
